Sara D. Roosevelt Park, Manhattan
AAFE and Hester Street have teamed up to empower the low-income
immigrant community of Chinatown and the Lower East Side with the
tools and strategies to work with the NYC Department of Parks &
Recreation and other relevant city agencies to create improved
public parks that are tailored to their needs. AAFE and HSC build
on their work to engage a board spectrum of community residents,
particularly immigrants, in a participatory design process.
Together, they are developing a broader "New York Parks Toolkit";
organize a community-built art project, and conduct outreach and
visioning workshops around the Hester Street Playground and the
Allen and Pike Street Malls.
